Why Elon Musk Apologises to Rejected Candidates, Says xAI ‘Was Not Built Right’ Initially

Tech mogul Elon Musk has taken to his X account to admit that several talented applicants may have been overlooked during the hiring process at his artificial intelligence company, xAI. On Friday, the tech millionaire apologised to individuals who had been declined job offers and interviews in recent years. He indicated that the AI company is now ready to revise its recruitment history.
Why Elon Musk Apologises To Candidates Who Were Declined An Offer Earlier?
In his latest post, the Tesla chief wrote, “Many talented people over the past few years were declined an offer or even an interview @xAI. My apologies.” Musk added that Baris Akis and he are currently reviewing the firm’s interview process and planning to reconnect with those candidates who were previously missed a couple of years ago.
Tesla Chief Decides To Rebuild His Team
Musk has also suggested that the firm’s early organisational structure was somehow flawed and he is now redesigning it. The tech leader wrote, “xAI was not built right first time around, so is being rebuilt from the foundations up.”

While Musk did not reveal any further information regarding the changes he has already made, the statement hints at a significant restructuring attempt within the company. Musk compared xAI with the early years of Tesla, highlighting how he rebuilt the EV-making firm’s internal process. He implied, “Same thing happened with Tesla.”
To recall, the tech mogul has witnessed his original team exit since this January. Guodong Zhang and Zihang Dai, the cofounders of the xAI, were the latest exits from his AI startup. As per a TOI report, Dai had left earlier this week as his xAI badge was quietly removed from his official X account. Similarly, Zhang reportedly conveyed his plans to exit to Musk directly. He led Grok Imagine alongside Grok Code and reported to Musk directly.
