  • Turbulence in flight: Several passengers thrown out of seats on Qatar Airways flight - TomoNews

LAJES TERCEIRA ISLAND, PORTUGAL — It was a rough ride for 300 people flying from Washington, D.C. to Doha, Qatar on state-owned Qatar Airways this Sunday. It all started when a passenger began suffering what was initially believed to be a heart attack. This prompted the captain to divert mid-flight to a Portuguese military base on the Azores for an emergency landing. During this diversion, the plane reportedly hit severe turbulence upon descent. The plane apparently dropped so steeply, it threw people out of their seats. According to the Aviation Herald, a 3-year-old boy was sent flying across the aisle onto another passenger’s lap. Several passengers also hit the ceiling, and some were left bleeding. One passenger broke a leg while others received minor injuries. Three rece...

The outcome of the general elections in Singapore was a shock to most observers, who had predicted a far tighter outcome. The unprecedented six seats (out of 87, plus a seventh seat won in a by-election in 2013) won by the Worker's Party in 2011 had led many to herald a "new normal" in Singapore, one which would see greater opposition participation in Parliament to act as a check and balance on the ruling People's Action Party (PAP). During the 2015 election period, the opposition was greeted by rapturous crowds and the ruling party often seemed on the verge of panic. Yet the PAP won decisively, holding on to all their seats, gaining back a seat from the Worker's Party, and increasing their overall vote share by nearly 10%. P.J.
