Former xAI Employee Says Working For Elon Musk Felt Like A ‘Warzone,’ Quits After 3 Months

A dream job for someone can sometimes turn out to be a ‘warzone’ for others. A social media post on LinkedIn is gaining traction, as an employee who spent only three months at xAI described Elon Musk’s company as intense. The employee called the stint demanding and exciting. xAI’s former employee Rich Zou wrote in its official post, “The past three months were an absolute blast, one of the most intense warzones.” Implying extreme pressure and a mix of motivation, Zou described the work as “solving problems that could advance humanity.”
Former xAI Employee Reflects On His Journey at AI Firm
Even after the strong words, the decision to exit xAI was not framed as a complaint against the AI firm. Zou stressed that he believes in the future of xAI. However, his exit from the company was more due to personal reasons. He stated that the environment at xAI was not helping him grow in the way he wanted. Notably, the former xAI warned others about working in a high-pressure company. According to Zou, working at a company only for its name could not always be the best choice for an individual’s growth. Although Zou’s post has been gaining a mix of reactions online.
The timing of employees exiting xAI could be crucial because the firm has been going through a series of changes over the past month. This included the departure of cofounders Jimmy Ba and Yunhuai Tony Wu. Moreover, some senior-most employees have reportedly planned to leave the company, and the workforce has already been reduced.
Elon Musk Pledges To Rebuild xAI Again
Recently, Elon Musk announced that xAI will plan a major rebuild. He implied that the company had been built right the first time around, and he is now rebuilding from the ground up. The tech mogul also apologised to those who were earlier rejected and mentioned that xAI is reviewing past hiring decisions, aiming to reach out to more talent.
