iPhone Ultra Could Be Apple’s First Foldable Phone, Not ‘Fold’

Apple’s first foldable iPhone is rumoured to launch in September with iPhone 18 Pro models. The upcoming foldable iPhone has been in leaks for a long time but its name may not be what everyone expected. Instead of being called the iPhone Fold, a new leak suggests Apple could launch it as the iPhone Ultra.
According to Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, the Cupertino-based tech giant is planning to use the ‘Ultra ‘branding for its first foldable iPhone. Apple already uses the Ultra name for its top-end products like the Apple Watch Ultra and its premium chips.
The report further suggested that iPhone-maker may use this branding for future devices, including MacBooks and AirPods. So, using Ultra for a foldable iPhone fits Apple’s strategy of highlighting premium devices.
The foldable iPhone is expected to be very expensive. Multiple leaks suggest that the foldable iPhone could become Apple’s most expensive smartphone yet. The base variant, with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, is expected to be priced at around Rs 2,03,900 in India.
In terms of design, the rumoured iPhone Ultra is expected to come with a notepad like design with a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch external display. It will be wider and shorter than other foldable smartphones on the market. As per reports, the phone will be shipping with a LiquidMetal hinge for high durability.
Apart from that, we may get to see the phone carrying a titanium frame with a ceramic shield. This time, Apple is expected to skip Face ID and go for Touch ID on the device.
The iPhone Ultra will pack an Apple A20 Pro chipset paired with high capacity RAM and around 256GB internal storage. The chip will be based on a 2nm process and will be more advanced than its predecessor.
The handset is also is expected to support iPad-style multitasking. The first foldable from Apple may include a 5400 or 5800mAh battery along with eSIM support.
