Google is getting ready for its annual Android-focused showcase ahead of the much-awaited Google I/O 2026 developer conference later this month. This year, the US-based tech giant is once again giving Android its own dedicated spotlight through “The Android Show: I/O Edition 2026”, where the company is expected to unveil major software upgrades, AI-powered features and updates across its ecosystem. From Android 17 to Gemini-powered experiences, there is quite a lot expected from this year’s event.
Android 17 And Gemini AI Could Take Centre Stage
The search giant has already hinted that this could be “one of the biggest years for Android yet” and most leaks suggest Android 17 may finally get a detailed reveal during the presentation.
Google is also expected to talk heavily about Gemini integration across Android devices. Reports suggest the company may showcase smarter AI-powered tools, deeper system-level AI features and updates tied to Gemini 4. Apart from smartphones, improvements across foldables, wearables, Android Auto and tablets are also expected to be announced.
ChromeOS, Android XR And More
One of the biggest rumours ahead of the event revolves around Google’s reported unified Android and ChromeOS platform, which is being referred to as “AluminiumOS” in leaks.
The platform could reportedly bring a desktop-style interface to Android devices, complete with better multitasking, redesigned system icons, an upgraded status bar and tighter Gemini integration.
Google may also share more details around Project Astra and a possible AI-focused app called Cosmos.
Meanwhile, Android XR is expected to be another major talking point. The tech giant could tease upcoming smart glasses and mixed reality experiences, including devices being developed alongside Samsung for launch in 2026.
The Android Show 2026: India Timing And How To Watch Live
Google has confirmed that The Android Show: I/O Edition 2026 will stream live on May 12 at 10:00 AM PT, which translates to 10:30 PM IST in India. The livestream will be available through Google’s official Android YouTube channel. Users can also head to the official Android event page to add the event reminder directly to Google Calendar. The upcoming showcase is expected to act as a preview for Google I/O 2026, which is scheduled for May 19.
