Artificial intelligence has become one of the most debated technologies in the world right now. Every few weeks, there’s another conversation around AI replacing jobs, automating industries, or making certain professions irrelevant. But Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang believes much of that fear is being exaggerated. Speaking during a recent interview at Stanford University, Huang strongly pushed back against the growing narrative that AI will wipe out human jobs. According to the Nvidia chief, the technology is changing how people work, not eliminating the need for them altogether.
“First of all, I think the narratives of AI, destroying jobs, is not going to help America,” Huang said. “It’s just, it’s false.”
Jensen Huang Says History Shows A Different Pattern
To explain his point, Huang brought up the healthcare industry, specifically radiology. Years ago, several AI researchers predicted that radiologists would become unnecessary because machines would eventually learn how to read medical scans better than humans. Huang said AI did, in fact, transform radiology significantly. But the actual outcome turned out to be very different from what many expected.
“The part that was exactly opposite is the number of radiologists increased,” Huang explained. According to him, AI tools helped hospitals process more scans, improve patient care, and expand medical services. As a result, demand for trained radiologists actually went up rather than down. “We need more radiologists than ever, and we don’t have enough,” he added.
‘Software Engineers Are Busier Than Ever’
Huang believes the same thing is now happening in software development. The Nvidia CEO revealed that agentic AI systems are already deeply integrated into Nvidia’s own engineering workflows. Instead of replacing programmers, the tools are helping them build products faster and handle larger workloads. “Well, as it turns out, we now have agentic AI inside Nvidia. It’s everywhere, every single software engineer is using it,” Huang said.
He also argued that engineers who know how to collaborate with AI systems are becoming increasingly valuable inside companies. “The software engineers that know how to use AI, know how to use agentic systems, working with agentic systems are the most popular and the most successful,” he explained.

Huang did acknowledge that certain repetitive jobs may eventually disappear, especially roles built around predictable and repetitive tasks. However, he believes technological revolutions historically end up creating entirely new industries and opportunities.
One interesting point he raised was how AI is changing the pace of innovation itself. Earlier, software engineers spent huge amounts of time manually writing code. Now, AI can generate much of that code almost instantly.
“Now we have an idea, it takes no time to code. Now, all of a sudden, the company is waiting for you for the next idea,” Huang said.
In the long run, the Nvidia chief remains optimistic. “My belief is, we’re gonna create more jobs in the end,” Huang said. “There’ll be more people working at the end of this industrial revolution than at the beginning of it.”
