Elon Musk’s Grok keeps landing into trouble for a very long time now. In a recent development, the xAI chatbot has again landed in trouble as it violated Canadian privacy laws by launching an image-generation tool that lets users create and share non-consensual and sexualized deep fakes. After Privacy Commissioner Philippe Dufrense released a formal probe in January, xAI announced tweaks to prevent Grok from letting individuals edit images of real people in revealing clothing. Britain and Canada claim the top spot in the list of countries that triggered a crackdown against Grok’s explicit content.
Dufrense said in a press conference, ‘xAI violated Canada’s federal private sector privacy law by launching the Grok AI-powered image generation tool without implementing appropriate safeguards from the outset.’

It all began when regulators in Canada started investigating reports suggesting that Grok was being used to create sexualized deepfakes of people. The concerns then became global because Grok was doing it everywhere, and putting people in revealing clothes is something that is not expected from an AI model that is boasted as one that knows its guardrails.
