Centre Plans Crackdown On Chinese Apps After Viral E-Rickshaws Prank: Sources

New Delhi: After viral videos circulating on X have sparked concerns showing people allegedly stopping moving e-rickshaws using an app, the Centre is planning to bring strict rules on Chinese control systems in e-rickshaws. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) sources told Times Now the central government is preparing to take a major step regarding Chinese apps and software used in e-rickshaws.
As per the sources, security, cybersecurity, and data protection concerns are currently under review. If the proposed regulations are implemented, Chinese app-based control systems used in e-rickshaws could be affected.
The government’s focus is on promoting secure, reliable, and trusted technology for the sector, the MEIY sources claimed. Meanwhile, an official notification or order is still awaited.

Delhi Minister’s Statement On The Issue:
Earlier on Thursday, Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh said the government is looking into an issue. Speaking on the matter, the Delhi government minister said that this is illegal and assured that the police will take action.
In a statement, Pankaj Singh said that they are aware of the matter on social media, and the government is looking into it. He further added that the police will also take action on their own about this, and it is illegal to do so. The minister further stated that under the “Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2026”, more electric vehicle adoption will happen through the incentives and other facilities given.
Speaking further on the matter, Delhi Minister said that they believe that now EV cars are coming in a lower price range also. We are providing incentives for scrapping and purchasing. Gradually, for those with a higher range, when people start adopting EVs, their value also reduces as competition will increase for cars, PTI reported.
In the viral video,s, it could be seen that e-rickshaws are allegedly being stopped using the BAT-BMS app.
