Karbonn Plans Comeback With Affordable 5G Phones As Smartphone Prices Rise

India’s own smartphone brand Karbonn is making a comeback in the country’s smartphone market. The smartphone maker is planning to rebuild its presence by launching devices for young buyers, including students and content creators. This move comes at a time when smartphone prices are skyrocketing, putting pressure on consumers looking for budget-friendly devices.
Pradeep Jain, CEO and Managing Director of Jaina Group, the parent company of Karboonn, has indicated that the company is planning a range of carefully selected devices. The upcoming launches may help the brand regain a foothold in India’s budget smartphone segment, where buyers are looking for affordable mobiles with decent specifications.

Karbonn’s return also comes amid concerns about rising smartphone component costs, particularly for RAM and storage, which could make it harder for brands to offer affordable devices. A widely circulated note on social media from Jain hints that the company aims to make technology more accessible at a time when the cost of buying a smartphone has increased.
“Over the last couple of years, India’s phone market has climbed in price while the number of Indians buying has flatlined, proof that some of our most important buyers are being priced out rather than served,” he reportedly noted.
Karbonn was once among the Indian smartphone brands competing for buyers looking for affordable handsets. However, the arrival and expansion of Chinese smartphone makers, including Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo, changed the competitive landscape around 2014. Samsung also strengthened its position with its Galaxy smartphone lineup.
An Amazon microsite has hinted at a new Karbonn smartphone called the Karbonn Rebel 5G. However, reports suggest that the device could launch under the name Zen Z Alpha 5G. The company has yet to confirm the final name and specifications. As per the notable tipster PassionateGeekz.com, the anticipated handset may feature a 6.7-inch HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It may be powered by a Unisoc T8200 processor and a pack a 6,000mAh battery with support for 18W charging.
