Davos: Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that India now has a very substantial ecosystem, and this is a time when the nation will be going forward for getting its own Indian electronic brand and devices.
In an exclusive conversation with ET Now on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026 at Davos, Switzerland, when asked that India is making for the world as we have seen Apple coming to India, so when will India get its own Apple?
Ashwini Vaishnaw, while mentioning it as an important point, said that they have done all the homework that is required to be done for producing a mobile phone that include thousands of processes and very soon, India should have its own brand.
“That’s a very important point. Now that we have a very substantial electronics ecosystem in our country, this is the time when we will be going for getting our own Indian brands and devices,” the Union Minister said.

Continuing further, Vaishnaw said, “We have done all the homework that is required to be done. Today and yesterday we had significant meetings with the entire ecosystem which produces the thousands of things that are required to go into a mobile phone. Very happy, very satisfying progress.”
When asked if there is any specific timeline by which India will see its homegrown brands in devices, Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Very soon, maybe another one year from now or maybe max 18 months from now, we should have our own Indian brand.”
Ashwini Vaishnaw Meets IBM, Meta Chiefs in Davos
Earlier today, the Union Minister met with IBM CEO Arvind Krishna and Meta Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan at the World Economic Forum in Davos to discuss India’s growing role in the global technology landscape.
Sharing the development in a post on X, Vaishnaw stated, “The world looks at Bharat as a key driver of global innovation. Met Arvind Krishna, CEO, @IBM and Joel Kaplan, Chief Global Affairs Officer, @Meta.”
Discussions included safety of social media users from deepfakes and AI-generated content. Meta briefed the Minister on its efforts to protect users.

Ashwini Vaishnaw on India’s Vision for Artificial Intelligence at WEF 2026
Ashwini Vaishnaw, addressing the World Economic Forum in Davos, detailed India’s comprehensive strategy to dominate the global artificial intelligence landscape, emphasising a shift from big-tech-controlled resources to a public-private partnership model.
Speaking at a panel on the “Role of AI in Economic Growth and Global Influence,” the Minister revealed that India has successfully established a public-private partnership with 38,000 GPUs as a common compute facility, accessible to students, researchers, and startups at roughly one-third the global cost, unlike many countries where big tech controls GPU access.
