Elon Musk seems to be working hard to build smarter AI. Just when many people thought the competition was getting intense between OpenAI and Anthropic, Musk appears ready with possibly another major move after rebranding xAI to SpaceXAI. According to The Information, SpaceXAI is expected to launch its first AI model developed with coding startup, Cursor, hinting at a new chapter in Musk’s AI plans.
SpaceXAI And Cursor May Prepare AI Model Launch
According to the publication, a memo has been sent to employees which notes that SpaceXAI and Cursor are planning to launch their first jointly developed AI model as early as Wednesday. The launch was reportedly delayed by a few days to improve the model’s efficiency before making it public.
This new model is expected to process information quickly and may compete with some of the latest AI tools from OpenAI and Anthropic in certain tasks. Reportedly, it has been trained using xAI’s Colossus supercomputing infrastructure.
The launch may come after Musk’s AI startup underwent a major identity change. On Tuesday, xAI officially rebranded itself as SpaceXAI, reflecting a closer connection with Musk’s space company.
A Bigger Push Into Artificial Intelligence
Notably, the rebanding became public when the company’s official X account changed its name to @SpaceXAI and announced the new identity through a promotional video The company also introduced a new logo that blends elements of the previous xAI branding with the familiar SpaceX design.
Musk had founded xAI in 2023 with the goal of creating what he described as a “pro-humanity” AI company. Since then, the AI startup gained attention through its Grok chatbot, which emerged as another challenger in the faster growing AI market.
If the new expected model performs well, it may add another powerful competitor to OpenAI’s gpt-5.5 and Claude Opus 4.8. For everyday users, developers and businesses, more competition could lead to wider choices.
