Discord Down: Nearly 71,000 Users Report Outage Affecting Messages and Logins

Discord went down Friday afternoon, leaving tens of thousands of users unable to send messages or log into the platform. The problems started hitting around 2:45 p.m. ET and the reports kept coming.
By just before 4:30 p.m. ET, nearly 71,000 users had flagged issues on Downdetector, the site that tracks real-time outages. The worst of the reports were concentrated in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.

What Discord Said
Discord put out an update on its status dashboard confirming the problem was real and widespread.
“We are continuing to work to remediate the issues impacting availability for some Discord users,” the company said. “This is causing impact across our service, including logging in and sending messages.”

Discord said it first started looking into errors in its API systems around 3:08 p.m. ET, roughly 26 minutes after the reports started rolling in on Downdetector. Since then, it said it had identified the issue and was actively working on getting things back to normal.

What’s Actually Broken
The outage is hitting the basics hard. Messages are not loading, new ones are not going through and users are having trouble getting into their accounts altogether. Yahoo Tech confirmed the issues firsthand, noting that Discord was failing to load messages and not sending new ones on their own devices.
People Are Making the Most of It
While engineers work on a fix, users on social media have been doing what people do best when a major platform goes down: finding the humor in it.
