The ongoing global memory chip crisis is now hitting smartphone brands really hard. After several OEMs revised prices due to rising DRAM and NAND memory costs, Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has now increased the prices of Redmi and Xiaomi smartphones in India by up to Rs 5,000. The revised prices have come into effect from today. That means you need to pay more to buy a Xiaomi or a Redmi phone in India
According to reports, the latest price hike is linked to the continued rise in memory component costs. DRAM and NAND flash chips are important parts of every smartphone and their prices have been increasing over the past few months due to strong demand from AI servers, data centres and consumer electronics.
As manufacturers face higher production costs, some of that increase is now being passed on to customers.
Popular tipster Abhishek Yadav took to social media platform X and shared a screenshot with list of phones with hiked prices on Sunday. “Xiaomi is increasing smartphone prices in India. If you’re planning to buy any of these phones, today is the last day to get them at the current price on online platforms before the revised pricing takes effect.”
As per Yadav, the revised prices affect both budget and premium smartphones. Among the Redmi models, the Redmi 15A 5G and Redmi 15C 5G have become costlier by up to Rs 1,500. The Redmi 15 5G now costs Rs 1,000 more, while the Redmi Note 15 5G has received a price increase of Rs 2,000.
The biggest increase is for Xiaomi’s premium Xiaomi 17T smartphone, which is now priced Rs 5,000 higher than before. This makes it the model with the highest price revision in the latest round of increases.
The latest move means customers who were planning to buy any of these smartphones will now have to spend more than they would have just a day earlier.
The hike also suggests that the impact of the global memory chip shortage and rising component prices is continuing to affect the smartphone industry, with brands adjusting retail prices to manage increasing manufacturing costs.
