Anthropic has released Claude Opus 5, which can be dubbed the latest frontier AI model by the firm, offering exceptional performance in both coding and knowledge work at half the price of Claude Fable 5. According to data published by Anthropic and industry benchmarks, Opus 5 is better than Claude Fable 5, which was restricted by the government of the United States due to its capabilities and placed under export controls. This is the fourth model in line launched by Dario Amodei’s firm in just two months.
Anthropic said, ‘Claude Opus 5 provides greatly improved performance for the same cost as its predecessor, Opus 4.8. The charts in this section show how performance changes according to the model’s effort setting, which customers can use to optimise for intelligence or conserve tokens for faster and cheaper results’
Furthermore, the company is hailing Claude Opus 5 as a thoughtful everyday assistant optimised for efficiency. On hardcore coding and knowledge work evaluations, the model establishes novel industry standards. If we go by the data shared by Anthropic, Opus 5 is better than Gable 5 on 10 out of 14 metrics. For instance, in the software engineering domain, Opus 5 outperforms all the competing models and leaves its older versions with half the accuracy of what it brings to the table.
Anthropic said, ‘Opus 5 excels on valuable software engineering tasks. For example, on Frontier-Bench v0.1, Opus 5 surpasses all other models, and more than doubles Opus 4.8’s performance at a lower cost per task. On CursorBench 3.2, at max effort, the model performs within 0.5% of Fable 5’s peak score, but at half the cost per task; it also achieves greater performance at a given cost than all other models on high, xhigh, and max effort.’ Moreover, even after being exceptional at coding, Anthropic said that they have kept Opus 5 limited behind other models from the firm on security evaluations to maintain safeguards.
