According to a report published by CrowdStrike, China-linked hackers worked as the biggest espionage threat to tech companies in the past year. The hacking campaign aligns with the Chinese government’s strategic priorities and a sustained interest in technology development, intellectual property, and information with strategic and economic value. However, the Chinese embassy in Washington, Unites States Of America, has dismissed the report.
Since AI came into action, we all know that cyberattacks have been on the rise. Now, a report has found out that the tech sector was one of the most targeted industries by foreign governments and cybercriminals. The primary target of these attacks was companies that research, develop, or distribute computer hardware technologies, IT services, software, and semiconductors.

The findings come at a time when frenzied valuations and investments in technology firms in and around the AI space, and these are among high value targets, as stated by CrowdStrike’s Senior Vice President, Adam Meyers. For those unaware, on April 23, White house Official of Science and Technology Policy accused Chinese bodies of deliberate industrial-scale campaigns to distill US developed models for their own purpose.
Meyers said, ‘There is an AI arms race occurring between the U.S. and China, and China intends to achieve global dominance by 2030.’ On the other hand, a Chinese spokesperson said, ‘China opposes hacking activities and fights such activities in accordance with the law. The country also rejects vilification and smears under the pretext of cybersecurity.’
Furthermore, the spokesperson also said that US and China need to work together on AI development and governance, and that during Trump’s recent visit, ‘the two heads of state had constructive exchanges on AI and agreed to launch government-to-government dialogue on AI.’ The report also mentioned a rise in hacking activity from financially motivated cybercriminal groups.
