Elon Musk has always been in the limelight for his larger-than-life plans for tech and everything related to it. In a recent development, the Tesla bossman has said that his company SpaceX wants to use robots on the Moon to build factories and industrial infra. He said that this could let SpaceX potentially scale up to 1000x the economy of the Earth. The SpaceX CEO said, ‘It sounds super sci-fi right now, but it is going to happen.’
The main reason behind having the aspiration to build factories in space is similar to that of orbital data centres. The organisations will be expected to invest fewer resources in cooling the facilities, and there is no need for human labour either. Apart from that, Musk also said that the satellites from SpaceX should be thought of as robots because ‘they’re autonomous and don’t need servicing.’
As per Musk, Moon-based robots could aid SpaceX build a mass accelerator with solar production. Furthermore, a mass accelerator would let SpaceX launch cargo from the Moon without Rockets. He also said that the robots will be helpful when it comes to building such an accelerator as well as factories. However, Musk also accepted that the idea sounds totally nuts in the current times.
SpaceX and Musk have been pretty vocal about the plans related to space in the past. The firm also highlighted its plans for the moon, where humanoid robots will be working on basic infra resource processing, and equipment maintenance. Until now, it has not been confirmed if the current lineup of humanoids by Tesla, Optimus, or its upcoming versions will be able to achieve what Musk wants. One thing that we can say at this point in time is that the journey ahead for Elon Musk and all his businesses is going to be nothing less than a spectacle.
