With the artificial intelligence boom, brain implants are already taking place where AI can read human brains. Meta is also exploring futuristic AI projects that may soon predict how a human brain could react to videos, audio and images. The revelation comes from Alexandr Wang, chief AI officer at Meta, who appeared on the 71st episode of the Core Memory podcast.
Wang mentioned Meta’s long-term AI projects that could shape its new AI vision, including superintelligence, robotics and brain-related AI research. As per him, the company is making advanced ‘foundation models’ that can study and predict the activities of the human brain.
Moreover, Wang revealed during the podcast, “We are building AI models… foundation models for brain predictions.” He added that one of the key findings from the research was “zero-shot generalisation”, where the AI could reportedly predict how a human’s brain would react to audio, video and images without having any knowledge about the person in advance.
Meta Plans Big On Brain And AI Research
Wang highlighted that brain-computer interface (BCI) technology will become a crucial part of the future. He said energy, AI, computing and robotics will emerge as the major pillars of the upcoming technological progress. My favourite thing to do is reading sci-fi,” Wang said as he discussed Meta’s experimental projects. “BCI and superintelligence are important; energy, compute and robots are our future.”
These comments show Meta’s interest in growing in connecting AI systems more closely with human behaviour. The tech giant has previously focused on virtual reality products and smart wearables, and now, it will be moving deeper into neuroscience-inspired AI systems.
AI Rivalries Continue Across Silicon Valley
During the podcast, Wang also addressed the increasing tensions between AI leaders across the industry. He called the ongoing rivalries “unfortunate” and mentioned that he hopes the AI world eventually comes together. He stressed, “My real hope is that all these animosities subside over time.”

Notably, he spoke about his relationship with Yann LeCun, who had earlier criticised Wang publicly. Despite previous comments, Wang mentioned that LeCun later congratulated Meta’s AI team on its work. For those who do not know, Yann LeCun is the former Meta’s chief AI scientist who left the company in 2025.
The podcast also touched on Meta’s hiring push, which reportedly targeted employees from OpenAI. Wang avoided addressing the claims directly but accepted that public reports are “not always correct”. As the competition grows in the AI industry, Meta appears to be positioning itself not only as a leader in generative AI but also in futuristic technologies that may blur the line between machine learning and human thinking.
