Palantir CEO Alex Karp Issues Fresh Warning Over AI’s Growing Threat

Palantir CEO Alex Karp says that the debate around artificial intelligence (AI) should shift from hype to real-world risks. He also has recently argued that people need to acknowledge that AI models are dangerous. His comments come days after OpenAI CEO Sam Altman suggested the industry is now ‘in the singularity’ following a security breach involving one of the company’s AI agents.
While in conversation with Fox Business, Karp stopped short of endorsing Altman’s assessment but said the incident shows why the industry needs to take AI risks more seriously. He said, ‘These are dangers. We are going to end up having to regulate artificial intelligence.’ Furthermore, he hopes the United States does not adopt a regulatory approach as restrictive as Europe’s.
Coming to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, he said, ‘We’re now, like, in the singularity,’ while appearing on the Relentless podcast after an OpenAI agent was involved in a significant security breach at Hugging Face. Altman also said, ‘Now, we are actually in the moment that we used to talk about at the lunch table in a very-not serious way.’
He also pointed to geopolitical competition, comprising China’s AI development efforts, as another factor requiring policymakers and technology firms to act responsibly. Karp’s statement comes at a time when Palantir is prepping to report its next quarterly earnings on August 3, 2026; the firm reported revenue of $1.63 billion, up 85 per cent year over year.
Palantir created AI software used across military intelligence, government operations and commercial organisations. The firm’s integration of large language models into decision-making systems has also been heavily scrutinised.
Apart from that, the whole crux of the matter is that the organizations and regulatory authorities should not be lenient towards AI models and the way the industry is pulling commercial success, it should not overshadow the risks posed by increasingly capable artificial intelligence systems.
