Qualcomm is reportedly planning to cut jobs worldwide following its annual employee reviews. According to Reuters, the US-based chipset maker will begin notifying employees about the job cuts in November, as it looks to improve employee performance and build a stronger performance culture.
Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon shared the information with employees in an internal memo on Monday, which was reviewed by Reuters. However, the memo did not mention how many employees could lose their jobs as part of the planned cuts.
According to the report, Amon said the company was planning a ‘performance-focused reduction’ as part of its efforts to build a stronger performance culture.
He also said the move would address situations where employees had consistently failed to meet expectations. The company has not yet disclosed the overall scale of the layoffs. It is not yet clear how many jobs would be affected.
Qualcomm Job Cuts: What About India?
The impact of the planned job cuts in India remains unclear. Times Now Tech has reached out to Qualcomm India for an official comment on the reported layoffs and to understand whether employees in India will also be affected. The publication is awaiting a response at the time of writing this story. Times Now Tech will update this story once Qualcomm India responds to our queries.
Qualcomm had around 52,000 employees worldwide as of September 2025, most of whom were full-time employees, according to Reuters. The company’s financial year usually ends in late September.
Why Is Qualcomm Planning Job Cuts?
Qualcomm is one of the world’s biggest chipmakers, with its processors powering smartphones across different price segments. However, the company has been facing challenges this year as higher memory prices put pressure on consumer electronics demand in key markets.
Rising memory prices can increase smartphone manufacturing costs and make devices more expensive for buyers. This can affect demand and create challenges for companies operating in the smartphone supply chain.
