We are just three days way from the pre orders of GTA 6, and the hype for the game is real. But the excitement amongst the fans could also become a reason of then being scammed as the bad actors are already on it. So, these scammers are sending emails to people in the name of the GTA 6 pre-release beta version, where you can download it to experience the game before anyone else. And this is of course, a scam, and if you fall for it then you can lose personal data and even banking details as well.
Vice President of global affairs at the cybersecurity company NordVPN, Gerald Kasulis, said that criminals are seeking to exploit the urgency and curiosity of gamers to play the new game. Kasulis said, ‘You’re a gamer, you’re waiting for the game, and you get an email that looks really official and polished; with the help of AI, scammers can actually mimic official websites really, really well. Then, without really checking … they just click on those things, believing they are official beta testing [invitations].’
NordVPN has said that these are credible fake websites that appear to provide early access to the game. Clicking links and sharing information on these pages could result in malicious software being downloaded on your system. According to a report published by the Guardian, one of the fraud sites says, ‘We need you to help us build Vice City. Before GTA VI launches to the world, we’re inviting a select group of players to experience the game early.’ Some of the sites also offer a code to access the game, called a ‘beta key’ on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles. The ultimate suggestion to all the readers is that there is no early access program for GTA 6 as of now.
