Apple has made AI and personalisation a major focus of its latest iPhone launch. During the Surprise and Shine keynote, Apple CEO John Ternus talked about AI, privacy, performance, battery life and camera improvements. Ternus, during its first keynotes as a CEO, explained how the Cupertino-based tech giant sees the iPhone evolving from a smartphone into a more intelligent and personal device. Apple Wants iPhone To Become Your Intelligent Personal Hub
Ternus said that if Apple were to design the ideal AI-powered personal assistant from scratch, it would need to be always available, understand the user’s needs and work seamlessly with other devices.
“You would want something that is always with you, deeply personal and able to bring intelligence to the moments when it matters most,” Ternus said.
He added that such a device would need a powerful processor, on-device AI, connectivity, a large display, high-quality cameras and microphones, long battery life and easy-to-use software.
“In other words, you would arrive at something remarkably familiar. Because there’s no product in the world better designed to be your intelligent personal hub than iPhone,” he said.
iPhone Will Understand Your Personal Context
Apple also wants AI to understand more about the person using it. “As your personal hub, your iPhone can do so much more for you because it understands your context,” Ternus said.
He pointed to information such as a user’s calendar, relationships, routines and the private details of their daily life.
The idea is that Apple Intelligence can use this context to make its responses and actions more useful instead of simply providing generic AI answers.
Apple Says Your Personal Data Should Stay Private
Privacy remains a major part of Apple’s AI strategy. Ternus said Apple Intelligence works on-device whenever possible. When more computing power is required, Apple’s Private Cloud Compute system is designed to handle those tasks while maintaining privacy.
He also questioned the idea of simply handing over personal information to companies and trusting them to protect it. “Trust only goes so far when your data is no longer yours to control,” Ternus said.
AI Will Connect The Entire Apple Ecosystem
Ternus also highlighted how AI features can work across Apple’s different products.
“iPhone sits at the center of an amazing ecosystem of intelligent features and experiences that work seamlessly across the products you use every day,” he said.
He showed examples including a more capable Siri, health features through Apple Watch and new AirPods capabilities such as Live Translation.
According to him, the goal is to make these experiences feel connected rather than like separate products.
