Elon Musk Calls Out OpenAI Bosses: ‘Scam Altman, Greg Stockman Stole A Charity’

Tech mogul Elon Musk has taken a dig at OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and the company president Greg Brockman on Monday. He accused the OpenAI leaders of ‘stealing a charity.’ The legal conflict between OpenAI and Elon Musk is being heard in a federal court in Oakland, California, as the trial started on April 27, 2026, where the Tesla CEO claims OpenAI shifted its original non-profit mission to a profit-driven model.
Musk Slams OpenAI Leaders
The xAI chief took to X and called Sam Altman ‘Scam Altman’ and Greg Brockman ‘Greg Stockman.’ In his post, Musk stated that both senior leaders benefited financially when their AI firm changed its structure from a nonprofit company to a public benefit corporation. Moreover, he claimed that the OpenAI president has received a massive stock allocation, while Altman has recently made several side deals linked to OpenAI’s growth.

Musk wrote, “Scam Altman and Greg Stockman stole a charity. Full stop. Greg got tens of billions of stock for himself, and Scam got dozens of OpenAI side deals with a piece of the action for himself, Y Combinator style. After this lawsuit, Scam will also be awarded tens of billions in stock directly.”
OpenAI Responds To Musk
OpenAI has rejected the claims of Musk. In a social media post from its newsroom account, the San-Francisco-based company stated that the lawsuit is ‘baseless’ and it is motivated by jealousy. Additionally, it highlighted that it wants to present its side in court and will question Musk under the oath. The firm implied that Musk is trying to slow down their progress and promote his own AI startup, XAI.

“We can’t wait to make our case in court where both the truth and the law are on our side. This lawsuit has always been a baseless and jealous bid to derail a competitor. We’ll also finally have the chance to question Mr. Musk under oath before a jury of Californians about this attempt to undermine our work to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity,” wrote OpenAI.
