What is Deepinder Goyal’s Temple wearable?
Temple is a wearable device designed to monitor changes in cerebral blood flow. Unlike conventional smartwatches and fitness bands, which generally track metrics such as heart rate, physical activity and sleep, Temple focuses on changes associated with blood flow to the brain.
The company calls its underlying technology BrainFlow. The device sits on the side of the head, between the forehead and the ear. It attaches to the skin using single-use adhesive strips called Grips. Temple is designed to collect physiological data that could help users understand how their bodies respond to everyday activities and changes in their routines.
Temple uses optical sensors to measure changes associated with cerebral blood flow. The device also generates an entropy score ranging from 1 to 250, which is intended to indicate the level of physiological strain on the body.
Several factors, including sleep, exercise, stress and caffeine consumption, may influence this score. The wearable also explores how posture and gravity can affect blood flow to the brain.
The device is intended for wellness and research purposes, rather than medical diagnosis. Its measurements should therefore not be treated as a substitute for professional medical advice or clinical testing.
