OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra Launch Goes Wrong, Sam Altman Says Sorry To Paying Users

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has issued his apology for a not so smooth rollout of the company’s latest AI models, GPT-6 Astra. The complaint that came from a plethora of OpenAI users is that they are unable to open Astra 6 even after having the paid subscription for the same.
For those unaware, GPT-6 Astra made a debut on Thursday only for enterprise customers with access to OpenAI’s Daybreak cybersecurity platform. Everyone else was asked to wait a few days, consisting of Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers in addition to the developers working using OpenAI API, AWS Bedrock, or Microsoft Azure.
Now, Pro users who actually pay the highest amount and are familiar with the practice of getting new models on the day they launch, accepted the unavailability with heavy criticism. The launch post for GPT Astra 6 by OpenAI staff on X filled up with complaints about access. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said on X that the firm was working to put Astra in everyone’s hands as quickly as it could, and that he appreciated the patience.
He also acknowledged the frustration directly but failed to offer a concrete solution or a particular date for the same. He also wrote that he is hopeful that people could use it over the weekend, but could not promise that yet.
However, OpenAI has announced something that comes as a relief for all the users missing out on Astra. Codex engineering lead Thibault Sottiaux said paid ChatGPT users would get one banked reset for every day they spend without Astra access, starting immediately, and that the team was moving at a fast pace.
For those unaware, Astra is the first OpenAI models to cross what the firm calls its critical cybersecurity capability benchmark, which means it can find and exploit flaws in well defended systems without human help.
