X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, experienced a second outage on Monday, 16 February, with users reporting that “posts aren’t loading”. According to outage-tracking website Downdetector, at least 12,000 reports were logged across US during the disruption.
Earlier in the day, users in multiple regions said the website and mobile application were not loading or refreshing properly. Most reported issues appeared to be linked to the mobile app, although some users also said the desktop version was slow or inaccessible.
People attempting to use the platform reported difficulties logging in, refreshing feeds and publishing posts, as complaints rose on Downdetector.
Data from the tracking service showed that about 3,357 users in India reported problems. Of those, 46% cited website issues and 45% reported application-related problems. A further 9% said they were unable to refresh their X feed.
Users in the United States and the United Kingdom were also affected. In the UK, reports peaked at 7:11 pm, with 10,958 complaints logged. Among them, 56% reported issues with the X application, 21% with the timeline and 17% with the website.
In the United States, reports peaked at 7 pm, reaching 41,369. Within about an hour, services appeared to be restored for many users, although the company had not publicly commented on the outage.
The disruption came exactly one month after thousands of users reported issues with the platform. On that occasion, around 200,000 people flagged problems on Downdetector.
According to industry publication Variety, 56% of those earlier reports were related to the X app, 33% to the website and 10% cited server connection issues.
