Jensen Huang-led Nvidia is planning to bring its new-generation AI-focused PC platform to consumers. The first Windows PCs powered by Nvidia’s RTX Spark chip are expected to launch in October. The AI chip giant on Thursday announced that Lenovo and Acer will be among the first PC makers to introduce computers based on the new platform.
The move comes after chipmakers and technology companies are heavily focusing on on-device AI, where AI tasks are processed directly on a laptop or desktop instead of relying entirely on cloud servers.
According to the company, this approach can help users get faster responses while also reducing the cost of running AI services.
Processing data locally can also offer better privacy, as some AI workloads can be handled directly on the user’s device.
The RTX Spark platform combines Nvidia’s Blackwell GPU architecture with a Grace CPU. The company believes this combination can deliver the computing power needed to run demanding AI applications and larger AI models locally.
Nvidia first unveiled RTX Spark in June as part of its broader partnership with Microsoft to develop PCs designed specifically for the AI era. The two companies have been working together on the project for around three years.
The RTX Spark chip was developed in collaboration with Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek. Nvidia has also been working with PC manufacturers to bring the platform to a wider range of Windows computers.
Lenovo and Acer will now join other manufacturers that are preparing to launch RTX Spark-powered systems.
While the companies have confirmed October as the launch window, details about pricing, configurations and the exact models are expected to be announced closer to the launch.
The push towards AI PCs is also gaining momentum across the industry. Apple recently refreshed its Mac mini and Mac Studio desktops with its latest M-series processors. The Cupertino-based tech giant showcased the ability to run larger AI models and autonomous AI agents directly on the devices.
