We got to see a lot of features that WhatsApp is working on to make the platform super interactive. And the latest leaks suggest that it is working on a feature that will let the users sync chat themes with other participants in individual group conversations.
The option may let users share their selected theme, wallpaper, and chat bubble colour, while custom wallpapers from the phone’s photo gallery will also be supported. The feature was first spotted in a beta version of WhatsApp for iOS and remains under development. WhatsApp is also reportedly testing a new chat theme experience on Android, with five different theme categories and separate wallpaper options as well.
According to a post by WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned instant messaging platform is developing a feature that would let users sync their chat themes with other participants.
The feature was spotted for iOS 26.37.10.16 via TestFlight, the option could let users choose whether a theme remains visible only to them or is shared with others in the conversation. It is still under development, and nothing about the same has been confirmed officially.
As for the working of the feature, if a user chooses to sync a theme, the other participant could automatically see the same theme, wallpaper, and chat bubble colour. The feature could also support custom wallpapers selected from the user’s photo library. Users who receive a synced theme could still change it later if they prefer a different appearance.
A system message could also appear in the conversation when a shared theme is changed, identifying the person who made the change. The feature is also expected to use end-to-end encryption, with WhatsApp reportedly unable to see the themes or custom wallpapers users choose to share. The feature is going to definitely make the chats more personal as the users will have the ability to assign different themes to different contacts.
